Last Train Home

In the space of six months, a life can be transformed by the events surrounding it, beyond any expected or imagined course. Mine certainly has in three most intimate, emotional and personal ways. That these events would influence me on a deeply artistic level was a real surprise.
After releasing two instrumental 12-String guitar CDs in a row, I found myself compelled to write poetry and lyrics. Suddenly I was expressing myself in words in the same way I had been telling a tale on the guitar. The deeper I delved, the lighter my heart became and the more I continued to write, the better I felt able to scratch the surface into a realm of expression that I had never attained before.

These songs were written and composed in the summer of 98, and later recorded in my hometown with the help and inspiration of my growing group of friends and musicians.
The original impetus to do a vocal album came from my friend and European manager Volker Wurz. As a matter of fact there are many friends to thank in Europe for their support and belief in me. At the risk of not being able to name all of them I must mention Wolle and Ruth, Ruediger, Gitti, Waltraut, Werner and Marion, Mani, Lothar, Horsti, Rainer and Maria, and all my great friends and neighbors in Germany.

Back home in the US this project would never have gotten off the ground without the help of one man in particular J.C. Smith. J.C. and Sharon's generosity and emotional support were often and freely given. Indispensable mixing assistance was offered by W.D. Our Web Mistress Michelle tirelessly has kept my projects on the World Wide Web. And photographer Kevin Beach continually has documented my evolving image.

My friend and fan base were very much involved in the creative process of these songs having heard them in various stages of development. They laughed and cried with me until I got it right.

This is the album my Dad always wanted me to record so I will thank my Mother with a hug.
This is the music that my son got into and shared with his friends so I will give his Mom my love.

This is the kind of thing Jim would have gotten a kick out of so I thank Diane and his folks.

And I thank you right now, the listener, for letting this music into your hearts!
